Leading A-Series engine specialist since 1981
The MED Verto flywheel is CNC turned from EN8 steel billet, after which we profile mill large slots through the flywheel on the outer edge for extra weight saving.
Final machining is then carried out around the clutch cover mounting bosses and the pre-engaged ring gear is retained by six cap-head screws.
The flywheel weighs approximately 2kg less than the standard unit at just 3.55kg.
If you require a complete balanced assembly with the clutch plate, competition clutch cover and centre boss, see the MED Verto St1 or MED Verto St2.
This makes an excellent upgrade over the standard Verto flywheel, for fast road or competition.
Ultra Light Verto Steel Flywheel 3.55kg
Verto Heavy Duty Clutch Cover 3.8kg
Upgrading to an MED steel flywheel not only saves weight, but also gives a more durable surface face on which to grip the clutch plate. The lighter the flywheel, the faster the engine will be able to increase/decrease RPM, making it more free-revving and responsive to throttle input.
MED Verto Ultra Light is our preferred option for performance road cars. The flywheel itself weighs approximately 2kg less than the standard type, while the later Verto clutch arm design gives an easier clutch pedal than the early diaphragm type. MED Verto flywheels are also suitable for light competition usage.
This flywheel will suit all transverse A-Series engines (Mini/Metro) with a Verto clutch setup. Please note - this will not suit fuel-injected Rover Minis. See the MED SPi Flywheel or MED MPi Flywheel for these cars.
If you prefer the original diaphragm type clutch setup, it is possible to retrofit a Verto-equipped Mini with an MED Heavy Duty Clutch Operating Kit. You will need to remove the slave cylinder mounting bracket and everything else is a direct swap. The advantage in swapping to the older design is reduced overall mass of the clutch/flywheel assembly - ideal for competition.
