PRE-VERTO MINI CLUTCH COVER / DIAPHRAGM
Description
Pre-Verto clutch covers/diaphragms, as used in all MED clutch and flywheel packages. These are available in three different strengths to suit your application.
For the best performance we would always recommend having your clutch assembly centralised and balanced when changing any components.
Clutch cover options:
- Blue - tuned 998, or standard to lightly-tuned 1275 road Minis.
- Orange - fast road 1275, trackday and rally applications.
- Grey - for powerful full-competition cars.
For reliability we suggest to use the minimum strength cover you can for the given application. So don't be tempted to install a grey cover on a mildly-tuned road engine when a blue or orange would suffice.
Orange and grey versions have heavy-duty strengthening tabs welded around the central thrust plate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which clutch cover do you recommend for my Mini?
The three different colours denote the strength of the diaphragm spring, or belleville washer, which affects the torque holding ability. When assembled as part of an MED flywheel kit, the blue covers will hold around 80lb.ft torque on our static test rig. Orange increases this to 125lb.ft and grey 135lb.ft, but this is only a rough guide, as the flywheel and back plate setup, plus the clutch friction plate, also makes a difference.
Are these pre-balanced?
No, you will need to have the cover balanced as part of the flywheel assembly. We do this when you purchase a complete kit.
Can I use this with a standard flywheel?
Yes, either standard or aftermarket, such as our range of MED steel flywheels.
When do I need to install a new clutch cover?
Like any metal spring, over time the pressure of the large belleville washer will reduce. This wear depends entirely on the application and amount of usage. For race use, many choose to install a new cover during a clutch plate swap and subsequent re-balance, to maintain the optimum clamping force.
