Classic Mini Engine Specialist
Since 1981 our aim has been to improve the BMC A-Series, an iconic engine that served BMC and later, Rover, from 1951 to 2000. Millions were produced in that time, in the UK and abroad.
The original Mini served the longest connection to the A-Series engine, 848cc to 1275cc, and really ignited the tuning scene as owners looked to improve performance for road and competition.
MED's long history with the A-Series has seen our modified engines and components shipped to all corners of the world. From our Leicestershire base, just down the road from the original factory, we continue to support this slice of historic British engineering.
Development of our market-leading parts continues at pace, and our team shares the same passion for all things A-Series, classic motorsport and engineering.
We strive to produce the best quality components to fuel your hobby, whether that's a Sunday drive to a car show, flat-out sideways on a stage rally, or setting lap records at Silverstone!
We want you to receive the highest quality parts and accessories, backed up with the best customer service and technical advice.
First named ‘MiniSprint’ and based in a small workshop behind a row of terraced houses in Leicester, MED originally stemmed from Managing Director Steve Whitton's part-time engine building hobby.
Steve was a time-served engineer and tool maker who developed his skills as an A-Series engine builder into a successful full-time business.
As MED's reputation for building powerful competition Mini and Midget engines grew, so did our loyal customer base, and by the early '90s we relocated east of Leicester to a much larger workshop.
With the team growing in size, MED went from strength-to-strength, and we began to develop our own product range to complement the rebuilt engines and kits.
In 2013 we outgrew the Tithe Street workshop and moved to a modern industrial park in Hinckley. This was ideal until 2021, when we expanded once again to a purpose-built 6000 square foot HQ in Lutterworth.
Today in Lutterworth, we have a retail shop displaying our most popular products, with a huge catalogue of high performance upgrades available from the shelf for worldwide dispatch.
The vast majority of MED components are designed in-house and machined locally, so we can keep a close eye on production. We then complete final assembly and QC checks in the workshop.
Also at HQ, we assemble our popular flywheel packages in-house on our aero-grade balancing rig. Oh, and not forgetting the filming and editing of our Youtube videos!
We no longer build engines or offer any machining services, but do have a network of local and not-so-local MED stockists who we can highly recommend, so please get in touch if you require any further help.
We have an expert sales and technical team on hand to answer any questions you may have.
