MED H-BEAM STEEL CONRODS - COOPER S 1.625" BIG ENDS
Technical Video:View More
Description
MED steel conrods are one of the lightest and strongest ever designed for the 1275 A-Series engine.
These specific conrods suit a crankshaft with 1.625" Cooper S big end journals, with a choice of 13/16" or 18mm bushed little ends to fit a set of our Omega pistons.
For reference, Omega diecast and forced induction specials use a 13/16" pin, and the lightweight forged race pistons use 18mm.
The latest design sees weight reduced to an incredible 429g for 18mm pins and 435g for 13/16" (including the bolts), compared to around 685g of an equivalent Cooper S or Sprite conrod - a 37% weight reduction.
Conrod features
- 13/16" little end bush for Omega diecast pistons
- Optional 18mm little end bushes for Omega forged pistons
- 1.625" Cooper S size big end journals
- 5.750" length, for standard height pistons
- Fully machined
- Uniform machine peening
- Balanced end-to-end within a gram
- Laser-etched MED logo
- Fitted with ARP fasteners
Supplied as an engine set of four.
We also offer an MED conrod and Omega diecast piston kit, saving money compared to purchasing the pistons separately.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes these better than standard conrods?
There's three benefits - strength, light weight and high quality. H-section steel conrods are considerably stronger than mass-produced standard conrods, which were never designed for high performance applications. Standard conrods can be lightened and balanced, but even then our steel conrods will be lighter and stronger. The highly accurate production process allows for exact build tolerances; you will not find a higher quality A-Series conrod.
Which pistons will these work with?
This set features a bushed little end to accept fully-floating gudgeon pins with a choice of 13/16" or 18mm diameter pins. They are an ideal match for our range of 1.498" standard compression height Omega pistons. Choose the 13/16" option for Omega diecast and 18cc forced induction pistons, and 18mm for our lightweight Omega forged race pistons.
Will these work with all 1275 A-Series crankshafts?
These specific conrods feature 1.625-inch big ends to suit Cooper S, MG Midget, Sprite and most EN40B steel crankshafts.
What torque setting should be used on the bolts?
These should be torqued to 30lb.ft, or preferably checked using an ARP rod bolt stretch gauge and stretched to 0.0050"-0.0055". You will need a 12-point 3/8" socket/spanner to do this.
Do these conrods work in an 8-Port engine?
Yes the MED steel conrods allow good clearance of the camshaft on an Arden 8-port engine.
