Description

Standard size high quality bronze valve guide set for 1275 cylinder heads, to suit MED 9/32" stem valves.

The guides are precision machined in the UK and are by far the best quality on the market, as used in all MED fast road and race heads.

There are differing tapers for the inlet and exhaust guides to maximise air flow.

All valve guides need to be reamed once fitted to give the correct valve stem clearance. Please contact us for recommendations if you're unsure on sizing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a recommended valve-to-guide clearance?

Arrow

We would always suggest that you leave this to the machinist in charge of the valve guide fitment, as different engine builders have their own preference. However, for a general recommendation, we aim for 0.0015-0.002" on the exhaust valves and 0.001-0.0015" on the inlets.

Which engines are these designed for?

Arrow

BMC A-Series, and A+, as fitted to the Mini, Sprite and many other British classic cars. We would only recommend these for fitment to an original A-Series cylinder head. While there may be different engines with 9/32" diameter valve stems, the guide length is unlikely to match.

Are the inlet and exhaust valve guides different?

Arrow

Yes, if you look carefully, you'll notice that the inlet valve guides have a longer external tapered section, to aid gas flow in the cylinder head. The exhaust valve guides have a smaller taper, and therefore more material to better dissipate the heat.

What material are these guides machined from?

Arrow

They're made from a specialist manganese bronze, that's chosen specifically to work with our 21N stainless steel competition valves.

Why is it important to use bronze guides with stainless steel valves?

Arrow

The bronze doesn't 'pick up' and cause galling. As a result, it's much harder wearing, so when used in high performance A-Series engines, these give much better longevity than standard steel guides.
