MED HD CLUTCH ARM KIT - VERTO
Description
The MED heavy-duty clutch arm is machined from EN24T steel, which is then heat treated for added strength and longevity. The design swaps the standard ball end for a full-width cam section, with a special plunger to suit.
This is far stronger than the standard setup, which is prone to premature wear of the ball. With uprated competition clutch setups, the standard design has been known to bend, or even snap the ball end clean off.
The MED arm makes an excellent upgrade.
Kit contents:
- Clutch slave cylinder
- Pivot pin
- Retaining clip
- Clutch arm pivot
- Release bearing
- HD clutch arm kit
- 303 stainless steel lock nuts
Please note, this is for the later Verto clutch setup only. Please see the MED HD pre-Verto clutch arm for the early version.
We can also supply a lightweight billet alloy bracket for the slave cylinder as an upgrade to this kit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the advantage of an MED Verto clutch arm?
The original Mini Verto clutch arm design has a ball shape on the lower end, which sits inside a matching plunger shaft that, in turn, helps to disengage the clutch. This ball section is not especially strong, so it can either wear down over time, bend or even snap off completely. The MED design has a wide paddle, or cam, in place of the ball, and the kit is machined from EN24T steel for even greater strength and longevity.
Can I use this on a standard Mini?
Yes, although we tend to fit these on cars with heavy-duty clutch covers, there is no reason why you can't fit this on a standard car. This particular design is for the later Verto style clutch and flywheel assembly, post 1980. For the early long-arm variety, please see part number MED-4810-HDK.
Does the kit include everything I need?
Yes, everything to convert to the heavy-duty clutch arm. Whilst changing the clutch slave cylinder, you may also wish to upgrade the standard hydraulic hose to one of our Goodridge versions instead, part number MED-6503-VCH. To install the new cylinder, you will need to re-bleed the clutch hydraulics as per the workshop manual.
Do I need any special tools to fit this?
The only specialist tool would be a brake/clutch bleeding kit to remove air from the system after filling the new slave cylinder with fluid.
Can I install this with the engine fitted in the car?
Yes, however you will need to remove the engine/gearbox mount on the clutch side, lift this side of the engine and remove the clutch housing cover, AKA the 'wok'. The plunger fits from the inside out of the wok. It's a relatively straightforward job, unless the wok has been fitted with overly long fixings, in which case you may need to lift the engine higher for better access.
