Description

A set of bronze bushes to allow the conversion of standard conrod little ends to a fully-floating setup with 18mm gudgeon pins.

Most Omega forged pistons use an 18mm gudgeon pin, whereas the standard conrods suit a 13/16" pin. When using MED steel conrods, this is no problem, but on standard rods you will need to modify the little ends.

See the Additional Information tab for more detail.

Additional Information

Tech info for conversion to fully floating con rods:

1. Fit supplied bushes to little ends and hone to a finished size of 18.015mm-18.020mm.

2. Machine little end of conrod on the short side to give a finished width of 21mm.

3. Drill 1/8" hole through the little end and bush at the top of the conrod and lightly countersink to allow oil feed to gudgeon pin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which piston and conrod combination are these bushes designed for?

Arrow

These bushes are made to convert standard 1275 or Cooper S A-Series conrods with a 13/16" interference-fit little end journal, so you can install a set of forged pistons with lightweight 18mmm gudgeon pins and run them fully-floating.

What is the benefit of doing this?

Arrow

Firstly it allows the use of lightweight forged Omega pistons without the expense of buying new steel conrods. Converting to a floating setup makes future rebuilds much easier compared to press-fit installation, so is a good option for competition builds.

Can these be fitted at home, or is it a specialist job?

Arrow

Ideally speak to your machine shop and supply them with the instructions listed on the 'additional information' tab of the website, unless you have a sufficient machinery at home to perform the conversion accurately.

Will these work with all Omega A-Series pistons?

Arrow

No, only those fitted with the lightweight 18mm diameter pins. This is our range of forged 1275 Omega pistons, excluding the 18cc big dish, which run the standard 13/16" pin sizes.

What are these bushes made from?

Arrow

We use a specialist grade of Phosphor Bronze that's ideally suited to this application.
