Description
Exclusive to MED, we have re-manufactured the classic Mini primary backing ring and C-Clip washer to a very high standard.
These hold the primary gear and thrust washers in place on the crankshaft, and can be supplied separately, or as a pair - saving £5 inc VAT.
CNC machined from EN24T steel, we have paid close attention to all radius dimensions, giving a precise fitment for all standard and steel crankshafts.
The standard items can wear with age, and budget replacements often need a degree of fettling to achieve a good fit. These are a considerable step up in quality.
After machining, we have the backing ring heat treated for further longevity.

Where does this fit on a Mini engine?
The primary gear backing ring and C-clip fit together on the classic Mini crankshaft, to retain the primary gear and thrust washers. The primary gear end float can be set by adjusting the thrust washer thickness.
What's the advantage of this MED version?
We CNC machine these from EN24T steel to exacting tolerances, and the backing ring is further improved by heat treatment for the best longevity. We have found that many cheaper versions on the market cause fitment problems, as the two faces do not sit flush, which affects the primary gear end float.
Do I always need to install a new primary gear backing ring?
The originals can wear over time. We'd recommend it if you're building any high performance A-Series engine.
