Frequently Asked Questions

Which classic Minis does this driveshaft kit suit?

Arrow

This kit is primary aimed at competition Minis on 10-inch wheels, such as Mini Miglia, Se7en, rally cars and hillclimb. The kit would also suit fast road and trackday cars.

Can I use this kit on Minis with 12 or 13-inch wheels?

Arrow

Yes, but it includes a pair of our heavy-duty drive flanges to suit 7.5-inch Cooper S brakes. If you have the later 8.4-inch brakes these will not be required, the drive flanges are different, so it would work out best to order the parts individually.

Which output shafts do I need to use?

Arrow

These driveshafts are designed to work with pot joint output shafts, as fitted to many standard Mini differentials, plus auto-bias LSDs and X-pin units. If you have an LSD and wish to run pot joints rather than Hardy Spicer couplings, search for MED-3700-PJ output shafts.

How do 300M steel driveshafts compare to the standard factory items?

Arrow

They're much stronger - 300M is an ultra-high-strength, low-alloy vacuum-melted steel. It's often used in motorsport driveline components and aeroplane landing gear, where the high strength, toughness and fatigue resistance is essential.

Why do you supply two pairs of hub nuts?

Arrow

We include the standard nuts as they're supplied with the CV joints, but would recommend you install the MED EN24T steel hub nuts instead, as these are a much stronger design with improved thread engagement. Keep the standard nuts as spares.

What torque should the hub nuts be tightened to?

Arrow

We would recommend using the standard figure of 193lb.ft.

Do the driveshafts need some weather protection?

Arrow

A light spray of white lithium grease every-so-often will keep them in good condition if used in all weathers.
