How do I know if my synchro hub needs to be replaced?

Typically these wear the dog teeth on the inside of the outer hub. Gently press the centre away from the outer, being careful not to go too far loose the internal ball bearings as they shoot out. The dog teeth on the outer hub can round-off with use, causing problematic gear changes.
