Description

This billet aluminium adjustable engine steady is a direct replacement for the heavy standard item, and weighs just 200g.

The kit includes fixings as pictured. It can also be supplied with an uprated one-piece rubber bush as fitted to the very last MPi Minis.

Ideal for performance road Minis, especially where bonnet or bulkhead clearance may benefit from an adjustable length steady.

Is this a standard replacement for the classic Mini top engine steady?

Yes, it is a straight replacement for the standard top steady, which fits from the flywheel end of the engine block to the bulkhead mounting bracket. The standard engine bar bracket is replaced with the alloy version, included.

How do I adjust the length when fitted?

Remove the long retaining bolt for the adjustable rod end, where it fits to the engine block. Now loosen the lock nut and adjust the length to suit, move the engine position by hand and refit the long bolt.

How much adjustment will this give?

From 157.5mm to 169mm, centre-to-centre, which should be more than enough. Fully retracted, the carburettor will likely touch the bulkhead; fully extended, the radiator may touch the bonnet at the front. So between the two you will find the ideal position.

What is the benefit of this over the standard engine steady?

Quite often the standard length engine steady can position the carburettor too close to the bulkhead, making air filter fitment quite difficult. This will allow you to reposition the engine to suit, within reason. It's also lightweight and looks great!
