Description
The bonded organic clutch plate is ideal for high performance road and competition cars with an inline A-Series engine (Sprite, Midget etc) and MED 7.5-inch steel flywheel.
The MED steel flywheel and accompanying heavy-duty clutch covers have both been designed to run with this larger diameter clutch plate.
It is also available as part of a complete inline steel flywheel kit. Please note, it will not work with the standard Sprite flywheel, only the MED 7.5" setup with Ford-style cover.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which cars is this clutch plate designed for?
This is for inline A-Series engined cars, such as the MG Midget and Austin Healey Sprite, Morris Minor and more. However, this larger diameter plate will only work alongside a suitable 7.5" type flywheel, such as the MED steel ultralight, part number MED-4700-INU.
Is this for the standard Sprite gearbox?
Yes, the centre spline is a direct replacement for the standard transmission. If you have converted your car to run a Ford Type 9 gearbox, please contact us, as we try to keep a couple of these plates in stock with the Ford spline. If not, they can be made as a custom order.
It's listed as a racing plate, but can I use this on the road?
Yes it's perfectly well suited to fast road use alongside full competition.
What is the clutch plate material spec?
This is a high-quality resin bonded mixture of heavy-duty metal compounds. Compared to a standard plate, this improves longevity, reduces judder, gives a higher coefficient of friction and also copes better with higher burst speeds.
Do I need to have my flywheel re-balanced when I change the clutch?
On the inline setup, no, as the clutch cover is doweled in place with the flywheel, and we tend to balance the flywheel and cover as an assembly without the plate installed. If you carefully refit the cover in the same position, it will retain the balance.
Do you have any bedding-in advice?
Our clutch plate manufacturer recommends 200 miles of gentle driving with regular stop-starting in traffic, to allow the friction material to form to the faces of the flywheel and back plate and give full coverage. The 200 miles does not include steady motorway driving or rolling road testing. Failure to bed the plate in properly can cause the clutch to slip when used with full power, significantly reducing lifespan.
