Frequently Asked Questions
Which Minis do these driveshaft couplings suit?
In 1974, Minis moved from Hardy Spicer couplings to these inner CV joints, in an aim to improve reliability and strength over the old fashioned rubber couplings. It's also possible to retrofit an earlier Mini with pot joints if you prefer, but you will need the matching diff output shafts, covers and driveshafts.
Can I use these in a racing Mini?
Yes, they're perfectly strong enough for most applications. The Hardy Spicer style competition couplings we keep are generally favoured for serious racing, as it's easier to change the engine/gearbox in a hurry if something goes wrong. Otherwise these will work well.
Which output shaft covers do I need?
Those intended for the 1.250" pot joints, as fitted from 1974 onwards. We also make some rather special billet alloy versions, part number MED-3707-OSC, if you're looking for brand new covers.
Can I fit these to a Mini with an LSD?
Yes, using our LSD-to-pot joint output shafts, part number MED-3700-PJ.
Can you help me to identify which driveshaft parts I need?
Sure, if you can email us on sales@med-engineering.co.uk with any pictures that may help, we can advise on the best setup.
