Description

This oil trap fits in place of the pick-up pipe plate on the back of the gearbox, to sift out any unwanted metal particles from the oil.

The strong magnet works alongside the Magnetic Sump plug to offer further protection to the engine and gearbox.

Can I install this with the Mini's engine/gearbox in situ?

No we would not recommend doing this, as the fixings for this plate hold the oil pick-up pipe in place. It is a part to install during a gearbox rebuild.

What is the purpose of this magnetic trap?

This is an additional magnet in the oil, to collect any potentially damaging metallic particles that may otherwise be fed directly to the engine. The magnet sits in the feed from the oil pick-up pipe in the sump.

How often should I clean the magnet?

As often as possible. We would recommend you remove, inspect and clean each time you change the oil, which should be a frequent service schedule on any high performance A-Series engine.
