Our EN8 Ultra Light steel back plate, now stronger and lighter than our previous design at just 1.32kg.

These are suitable for use with all pre-Verto clutch and flywheel assemblies, and highly recommended for all fast road engine builds.

As used in the MED Ultra Light St1 and St2 kits.

For use with the MED performance road clutch plate, MED organic plate or MED racing paddle plate.

Which car is this designed for?

This is for the classic Mini and Metro, using the early-style clutch setup before the introduction of the Verto system. It can be used on performance road cars right through to race use.

What is the performance benefit of this back plate?

Being machined from EN8 steel means that we can much reduce the weight without compromising strength. The standard cast iron back plate cannot be safely lightened to anywhere near this weight. The lighter the flywheel assembly, the faster the Mini will be able to accelerate.

Can I use this with a standard flywheel?

Yes. Although it's possible to mix-and-match flywheels and back plates from different manufacturers, we would recommend pairing this with one of our own steel flywheels to maintain the correct clutch diaphragm setup and torque holding.

Do I need to balance the back plate?

Yes, this ideally needs to be balanced when assembled together with the flywheel, drive straps, cover and plate.

How does this compare to the MED X-Lite back plate?

The X-Lite is machined from EN24T steel, which is stronger. As a result we can reduce weight by a further 34%, making it the best choice for a competition engine, or even fast road use if the budget allows.
