HELICAL AUTO BIAS DIFFERENTIAL - MIDGET/SPRITE
Description
The helical-geared automatic torque biasing differential for the Midget/Sprite considerably increases traction compared to the standard differential, and is well suited to fast road use, rally and even trackday outings.
This maintenance-free differential allows a smooth and constant distribution of power to the wheels to maximise grip.
It is less aggressive than the true NXG LSD, but still gives a very noticeable improvement to performance, especially on tight, twisty turns or on loose slippery surfaces.
Key Features

- Designed for fast road and trackday usage.
- Up to 20% more effective than similar helical gear designs.
- Maintenance-free gears eliminate the need for regular rebuilds associated with plate-type LSDs.
- Lock-free operation ensures no adverse affect to overall handling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which cars does this suit?
This is for rear-wheel-drive applications, specifically the A-Series powered Austin Healey Sprite and MG Midget. For the classic Mini variety please see MED-3610-HD.
Can I use this differential in a road-going Sprite?
Yes, it's ideal for a fast road Sprite/Midget, and will noticeably increase traction over a standard differential, without the usual downsides of a traditional clutch plate equipped limited-slip differential.
What's meant by 'helical'?
This unit uses a set of angled, helical-cut gears to automatically bias torque to the wheel with the most grip, maximising traction without requiring clutches. The design gives a smooth operation and is maintenance free.
How does it compare to a clutch plate LSD?
It's easier to handle, making it more useable for the road, plus rally cars and trackday Sprites/Midgets. Ultimately the NXG LSD is more effective for competition use, and will maintain drive to both rear wheels if a tyre lifts off the surface. The helical gear differential can loose drive in this particular situation, like an open diff, so care should be taken with suspension setup.
Does this differential increase power?
No, but it will help acceleration considerably, especially noticeable in wet or slippery conditions where the rear wheels can easily spin up with an open differential.
