Description

Developed exclusively for us by the suspension experts at Nitron, these high quality aluminium-body dampers are designed for full-race, trackday and hillclimb classic Minis.

A precise single adjuster gives highly effective two-way damping adjustment, with 3/8-inch spherical mounting points, or eyes, to suit the standard Mini damper pins front and rear.

Hand built in the UK and valved specifically to suit the Mini's unusual rubber spring suspension, they are fully serviceable. Attractive anodised alloy bodies protect against corrosion whilst reducing weight, while hard-anodised titanium finishing parts are used to ensure dampers last season after season.

Internally, the ultra-low friction components offer consistent, fade-resistant performance and a long service life.

We offer two lengths for the rear dampers, depending on your ride height requirements.

Open/Closed lengths

  • Front open 302mm open / 226mm closed

  • Race spec rear dampers - 279mm open / 219mm closed

  • Road spec rears dampers - 385.25mm open / 261.25mm closed

The short rear dampers are aimed towards full competition Minis with a sill lip height of around 7.5-8" at the rear, and the longer road length to suit around 9.5-10".

The front length is the same for either set. If running especially low ride height (6.5-7" front) with bump stops removed, modified front top mounts may be necessary.

    Testing

These were initially tested on a powerful hillclimb/sprint Mini on slick racing tyres to get to grips with valving for a rubber-sprung competition car. Feedback was very positive, and the driver could really push on through tighter corners where the previous setup did not inspire confidence.

Next these were installed on a front-running Mini Se7en at Cadwell Park, one of the UK's most technically demanding circuits. Back-to-back with the previous known-good dampers, it was particularly noticeable how effective the adjusters were; the difference of just two clicks of adjustment could be felt very clearly in the balance of the car.

With this Mini's handling already fine-tuned, it was still possible to extract more performance from the dampers alone. Four sessions in mixed weather conditions later, we had a good feel of the optimum settings for the car.

Over the next four races, the driver achieved a win, fastest lap and two second place finishes. Understandably he decided to keep the test dampers fitted as a permanent addition!

We can now offer dampers with these exact specifications, on the shelf ready to go.
