Description

We offer high quality cam bearing sets for both 998 and 1275-type blocks and use these in all road and competition engines. For reference, the 1275 bearings will also suit 970/1071 S blocks.

Installing new camshaft bearings is highly recommended as part of any engine rebuild.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cam bearings do I need for my A-Series engine?

Arrow

We keep two different sets of ACL camshaft bearings, each with three bearings. The only difference between 998 and 1275 types is the bearing by the oil pump, which is narrower on the small-bore engines. Early 850 engines did not have cam bearings fitted.

How do the cam bearings fit?

Arrow

A specialist tool/jig will be required to install the bearings into the block. Whilst you could potentially try this at home, we would recommend asking your machine shop to help with this, post block machining, as they will have the correct tools to make it easy. Pulling the bearings in square without the correct equipment is difficult.

Can you supply oversize bearings to suit my worn camshaft?

Arrow

No, sorry. We would suggest buying a new camshaft if the wear is this drastic.

Are these bearings sized correctly to my camshaft, or will they need to be reamed?

Arrow

The bearings are sized correctly for a new camshaft, however once fitted in the block, some fine adjustment may be required. Fit the cam and it should rotate with very little resistance. If not, check for tell-tale markings on the bearings (high spots) and dress back with a suitable bearing scraper until the cam spins freely.

Will these fit my Volvo/BMW/Ducati/Ford Fiesta/other random engine?

Arrow

These camshaft bearings will only suit the BMC A-Series engine, as fitted to the classic Mini, Sprite and many other British classics.
