MED COMPETITION DRIVESHAFT KIT - HARDY SPICER
Description
The MED Competition Driveshaft Kit is the ultimate upgrade package for your standard driveshafts, for fast road or competition usage.
The kit is aimed at those using 10-inch wheels with Hardy Spicer-type output shafts. If you're running a standard differential or ATB and have pot joint outputs, we can supply the adapters to suit. We can also supply LSD-type splined adapters.
Choose from the options above if you wish to add the output shaft adapters to suit.
Kit contents:
- MED heavy-duty 300M driveshafts
- MED heavy-duty Hardy Spicer couplings
- High quality 1275 CV joints
- Competition EN24T drive flanges
- MED Competition CV joint nuts and washers
- MED Hardy Spicer coupling bolt kit
- Optional output shaft adapters to suit pot joints or LSD
Frequently Asked Questions
Which classic Minis does this driveshaft kit suit?
This kit is primary aimed at competition Minis on 10-inch wheels, such as Mini Miglia, Se7en, historic, rally cars and hillclimb. The kit would also suit fast road and trackday cars, with care taken to keep the hardy Spicer coupling joints clean, as these run without rubber gaiters.
Can I use this kit on Minis with 12 or 13-inch wheels?
Yes, but it includes a pair of our heavy-duty drive flanges to suit 7.5-inch Cooper S brakes. If you have the later 8.4-inch brakes these will not be required, the drive flanges are different, so it would work out best to order the parts individually.
Which output shafts do I need to use?
This depends which differential you have fitted, but as long as they are designed to fit with Hardy Spicer style driveshaft couplings, these will bolt straight up. If you have pot joint output shafts or an LSD without the shafts, we can supply the correct adapters to suit. Our output shafts all use the later pot joint diameter covers.
What are the threaded ends for on the Hardy Spicer style driveshaft couplings?
These joints are adapted from another driveshaft application, so when we use them on the Mini, the threaded section is not used.
How do 300M steel driveshafts compare to the standard factory items?
They're much stronger - 300M is an ultra-high-strength, low-alloy vacuum-melted steel. It's often used in motorsport driveline components and aeroplane landing gear, where the high strength, toughness and fatigue resistance is essential.
What torque should the hub nuts be tightened to?
We would recommend using the standard figure of 193lb.ft.
Do the driveshafts need some weather protection?
A light spray of white lithium grease every-so-often will keep them in good condition if used in all weathers.
Why do you supply two pairs of hub nuts?
We include the standard nuts as they're supplied with the CV joints, but would recommend you install the MED EN24T steel hub nuts instead, as these are a much stronger design with improved thread engagement. Keep the standard nuts as spares.
