Ultra Light Flywheel updated for 2025
In a quest to keep things progressing, we've just redesigned the MED steel ultra light flywheel.
The new design moves away from using a separate starter motor ring gear, that we previously needed to shrink-fit and then weld to the centre section. The flywheel now features a pre-engaged 129-tooth ring gear that's CNC machined directly into the steel, made possible by a trick new heat treatment process.
We have been producing the X-Lite flywheel in a similar design for decades, but these can a bit over-the-top for many applications.
The new flywheel is available in pre-engaged design only (we'll continue with the separate ring gear for lower-volume inertia types) and retails for £210 including VAT.
It weighs the same 3.66kg as the original, as we find this to be a sweet spot for fast road and light competition Minis.
As before, this is also available in a complete flywheel and clutch package with a range of different plates and covers.
